Update on Kathryn...

I guess I should fill you all in on Kathryn a little bit, seeing as how this is her "Korner". Sorry for all the "blasts from the pasts", but I needed those laughs.
This past week has been full of "firsts" for Kathryn.
She has started sitting alone...
...getting up on her knees and rocking back and forth...

...LOVING patty-cake...

She thinks she's the Easter Bunny...

AND Santa Claus. I told her she was fat enough, but didn't have quite enough moola just yet.

And her favorite thing yet, lounging in the armchair watching TV. (Maybe she is more like her Daddy than I thought...)

The busy times have begun. Tonight is dinner at a friends, tomorrow is the big Petty family (Brad's Mom's side) Christmas party, Sunday is dinner at another friends (yes, we have more than one), then I leave to go see Jen, Jon, Jason, Alaina, & Andrew in IN - yeah!!!! By the time I get back Christmas will be practically here! Brad and I are just hoping that Kathryn cooperates with all of our festivities planned. :)

In other news... He's Back!! And he came over last night with his Mother, his sister, and my two nephews, (who I still can't believe are old enough to be in college.) The really scary thing, is that he is probably around town, this very minute, driving Snowflake. Those of you who know him, well, I'll say no more. Those of you who don't, be scared.

Micah! Those are awesome pics. Love 'em! :) Kathryn is a doll. Can't wait to meet her someday. Meredith just started sitting up too but I think she's a LONG way off from rocking on her hands and knees since she HATES to be on her belly. :-P

Have a merry christmas!

It was great to see you and Kathryn! Glad you made it back safe and sound.

Jen said...

Oh and tell Brad we missed him. Hopefully we will see him soon, maybe when we come down for a visit.

And I have decided I am not eating for the rest of the year.....seriously i have had so much food and sugar this last week, I swear I have gained 10 pounds....yeah I know random comment, but I had to vent! :) Self-control Jen, self-control...

Creth said...

well... I was going to ask where you'd been but... when I read Jen's comments I sorta put two and two together and after about ten minutes of real hard thinkin' ...I got four.

glad to have you back

"fear involves punishment"

we must remember that Christ received the greatest punishment for all who are redeemed

that night in Gethsemane He asked for God's will...

could I state that He knew God's will was best, though painful?

Creth said...

also, I believe that "love" is an attribute of God

an attribute being "a" quality or characteristic, not "the" quality or characteristic

if He were only love then we would have a great trouble with His being jealous

Creth said...

going home... don't let the thought stop though!

this encourages me!

Jason Mayes said...

You made it back safely! That is a good thing. Tell Brad I said hi!

Creth said...

I believe He was punished

that's sort of the...

"deal" of it, He was righteous, without sin and yet punished, this is how He breaks that "old way"

(I think looking at 'Narnia' helps, there was a punishment for the boy and Aslan took that punishment, that is what through off the entire "old system")

ya know?

(I completely understand that sometimes I can make no sense, I hope this isn't one of those...)

Good Thoughts

Good Questions

Creth are you working today?

Creth said...

yes... same old, same old

(that phrase sounds better than it looks)

I'm about the pass out... they're using a lot of... stuff... that has strong smells... it's making me a little tired

and I believe I know that Jennifer, you are working as well?...

and what do you prefer, when called by another?

(Jen, J, Jenny, Jennifer, etc.)

Creth said...

J, what are your thoughts?

Jen said...

Jen or Jennifer (though Jen is easy on the typing hands)

NOT Jenny

Yes I am at work. Trying to finish up stuff for the week and year since we will be off all next week.

Creth said...

wow. I just re-read my comment starting with "same old..." -there was a lot of freedom in that comment because there were a LOT of mistakes

anyway

Jen, sorry to hear that you have to close out the year... that's usually a lot of work

what are your thoughts on the possibility of Christ and fear?

Jen said...

My thoughts...

I agree that Jesus was punished. Though he didn't deserve it, WE did and he was taking OUR punishment upon his shoulders.

Jesus being afraid....hmmmm...I really don't know what I think about it. But if Jesus was truly human, all humans are afraid at one time or another. But on the other hand all humans sin, but Jesus did not. So I don't know. Is being afraid or fear in a certain context a sin? Hmmmm.....have to chew on this for a while....

Jen said...

Ok we can agree on "Fear of the Lord" but other fears or being afraid

Jen said...

In the Bible there is a lot of God and angels saying "Do not be afraid" but I never got the impression that they were in great sin or anything, just that God was reassuring them or comforting them in their fear....

Jen said...

"Them" being the humans were were afraid

Creth said...

we might consider fear a sin if it is a lack of faith in the Almighty

yet, "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all knowledge"

and I have always seen this as a starting point to salvation

Creth said...

"do not be afraid"

I read something recently that said that, at least with a few of the accounts in the Bible, when an angel said "do not be afraid" the original language "term" used was closer to our "gryphon" and that there might have been something visually terrifying about the appearance of angels (though they defined that angels vary and differ)

Jen said...

freedom....

correct......but does that mean we should never fear (aside from the Lord)?

Jen said...

I would say, yes for sure angels would be "terrifying"

On an somewhat related note...I remember hearing a story about a child who was confronted with an "angel"....I can't remember what this "angel" said but I do remember that the child said, "you are not an angel of God, b/c they always say 'Do not be afraid' " so then the actual demon fled.

Creth said...

"should"

maybe

if we fear because we do not trust that the Lord can "handle it" then... yes, I suppose that is sin

(the funny thing is... when we look at it, if we really look at it, we sin, I believe, more often than we even realize. I think that is why David asks the Lord's forgiveness for even those sins he commits without knowing)

Jen said...

Oh I agree with that "sinning without knowing abou it"...

Creth said...

you sin????

Jen said...

very funny....

Jen said...

I think the strong smells are affecting your head...

Creth said...

no really, Jason said you were perfect

he said that he and Jon would always run around sinning and you would stand there not sinning

he said you were really good at not sinning

Jen said...

Well Jason's a good liar....So I guess he is a good sinner. :)

No a lot of times I would run around with them, but would worry that we would get caught...

Jen said...

Yeah I a little less sleep....late night, early morning.

Creth said...

oh, and I know the strong smells are doing that... I could take a huge nap right here, right now... and I just woke up a couple of hours ago from eight hours of rest!

Jen said...

you can tell...

Creth said...

that was amazing, your comment posted before mine, and yet was in response to my comment that posted after yours... I'm freakin' out man

okay, okay... I believe you, Jason is a good liar and obviously you probably sinned... I mean, you are a preacher's kid (wow, there are actually seven preacher's kids...)

(as we all know, the preacher's kids were the ones you would get in the most trouble with)

(sadly, all of the preacher's kids I knew were really bad kids... I hope that isn't true about the Mayes children)

(well, sadly, I know it is true about Jon)

(and Jerry)

Jen said...

"preacher's kids" I haven't heard that ONE before... :) On a serious note, sadly that is the case a lot of times.

By God's grace we are all fairly "good" kids.

Jon-well we pray extra hard for him everyday

Jerry??? Who is that?

Creth said...

I was trying to see if I could create or "fabricate" a fictional Mayes child, I think it would be good for the team

Jen said...

good for the team??? What?

We do have a cousin named Jeri (female). Actually about half the Mayes cousins start with "J" as well (though it helps to have us seven already with "J" names)

Creth said...

so are you accepting my "Jerry" as a part of the greater good?

Jen said...

I'm lost....

Creth said...

yeah, I'm sorry... I'm bein' goofy

so, what's work like on the last day of the year?

and where is Micah?

(last minute Christmas shopping...)

Micah said...

No, last minute Christmas packing!!! Sorry, unfortunately, I don't even have time to read all of those comments, but I assure you I will as soon as I get home. I'll be gone for a few days. Right now, I have a very cranky baby that I need to attend to. One thought from me before I go. I think you are right about Jesus being "punished" for our sins. However, there is a difference in fear as in respect, and fear as in afraid. More when I get back :). Have a great Christmas you guys!!!

Creth said...

Merry Christmas!

...goodness, when are we going to be able to have this conversation?

I know it won't happen right now...

"respect" hmm... just a quick response but I don't think of it as a fear out of respect

He was about to endure the judgement of sin, the one great pain that has ever existed

Jen said...

Well technically I will have to come in next Wednesday for about an hour to do payroll and such little things like that. Not too exciting. Actually I am in good shape...I got a lot done yesterday and this morning so hopefully I can get out of here a little early today....we will see.....

Jen said...

Micah!

I can't imagine sweet little Kathryn cranky....I think your making it up Micah. :)

Jen said...

Merry Christmas and safe travels!

Creth said...

when are you flying to Dallas?

Jen said...

EARLY Thursday morning. I arrive at 8:30am. So this means Jennifer will be getting up very early. B/c I love sleep, I am actually going to spend the night at my Aunt and Uncle's (they live a little closer to the airport) so I can just roll out of bed and go...

Creth said...

wow.

that is really early

you travel like my dad, he always takes six and seven a.m. flights...

that's funny that you're going to stay somewhere closer to the airport... ha

you must really love your sleep

Jen said...

Well the time wasn't my choice...believe me....it was what was available for a decent price.

Which really I probably am only getting like 15 extra minutes, but anyway....I "feel" better thinking that I am getting more sleep. :) Plus I can hang out...oh my gosh....my heart just stopped...a HUGE bird just flew into my window....it looked like a hawk...it was HUGE....what was I saying...I don't know...

Creth said...

HAHAHAHahahaha, I love the bird

birds are great

we are birds in cages, right?

any-who... I know what you mean about "thinking" you're getting more sleep... and I understand the cheaper ticket... tickets are usually pretty expensive (whether it be airline, sporting or traffic)

I wonder what everyone's work schedule will be like next week, is Jason off?

also, if you have a camera phone, you should take a picture of the bird (whom I'm guessing is now laying on the ground beneath your window wondering why the "air" stopped him so abruptly

Jen said...

yeah just like your blog.

I have a camera phone, but the bird actually SURVIVED! It flew away. I mean this bird was HUGE...did I say that already? Like seriously "eagle huge" but I think it was a hawk...that's rare for bird to be around at all this time plus birds that big.

Jen said...

Jason I believe may work on Thursday. I told him I didn't want him to take any extra time off b/c he needs to work since he was off all this week. I can entertain myself.

Even though I have seen Jason everyday, we really haven't nailed down details..too many other things going on this week. Its been a very busy week...

Jen said...

Jason may need a vacation from this week.... :)

Creth said...

I'm going to bet that this monster bird does not survive the winter

Creth said...

isn't that what happens? when you travel

but it's worth it

Jen said...

yes very true....especially when it involves family. :)

Creth said...

also, check with Jason to make sure he has a ride from the airport when he returns

Jen said...

I will try and remember to do that.....

Jen said...

Oh Micah's going to have so many e-mails with all these comments....

Jen said...

Today is a dangerous day... to go outside from my office you have to look up and make sure sheets of ice don't fall on you....one almost did. I could have been dead. It is really "warm" here....like upper 40's so everything is melting. *Sigh* this is not Christmas weather...it should be 30 degrees and snow on the ground (I can hear God laughing at my fickleness)

Creth said...

CRY ME A RIVER

(yes, Micah will have a TON of e-mails with all of these comments, but all worth it, right?)

it is SEVENTY degrees outside right now in Dallas

THAT is not Christmas weather

but I also love Dallas and wouldn't trade it for any weather in the world

Jen said...

I need to cry a river right now...ahhhhhhhhhhh..people....

70's...keep it that way for me next week.

Creth said...

ha-

don't you find that when you most want to cry, you aren't capable

and when you don't really feel... like crying all that much, it happens without control?.

that's been my experience

I'll see what I can do about the weather... if anything, I can recommend a few peoples apartments where the temperature is kept at an ungodly high heat

Jen said...

actually I don't feel like crying...more like screaming in frustration right now....

Jen said...

oh and the "crying theory"....so true, so true....

Creth said...

frustration over trouble with clients?

Jen said...

more like my boss...

Jen said...

I'll get over it...I should be use to it by now.

Jen said...

so yeah I'm out of here...
have a very Merry Christmas!

Creth said...
